What We Do
Our projects
Every initiative at Little Lambs is designed to uplift, educate, and empower women, children, and families in Dunoon. Through practical support and community-based programmes, we are helping restore dignity, build confidence, and create long-term change.
Keep a Girl in School (KAGIS) Project
The Challenge:
Many girls in Dunoon miss school simply because they lack sanitary pads or food. Living in informal settlements, they often face poverty, hunger, and social challenges that make attending class impossible. Without help, these girls fall behind, lose confidence, and are at risk of dropping out completely.
What We Do:
The KAGIS Project provides 300 teenage girls at Inkwenkwezi Secondary School with essential monthly packs, ensuring they can attend school with dignity and confidence.
Monthly Pack Includes:
Sanitary pads, soap, toothpaste, roll-on
Toilet paper, washing powder
Maize meal, rice, pasta, tinned food
Packet of biscuits
Occasional gifts: face cloth, toothbrush, birthday items, stationery, or underwear
Education & Empowerment:
Alongside the packs, the girls attend monthly educational workshops on family planning, self-defence, mental health, HIV and STD prevention, substance awareness, and career preparation.
Impact:
300 girls supported annually
9 monthly workshops hosted each school year
Hundreds more reached through additional drives and seasonal support
This project gives every girl the chance to learn, grow, and dream — with dignity and pride.
Maternity & Prem Project
The Challenge:
Countless mothers in Dunoon and Klipheuwel give birth in heartbreaking conditions — with no money for baby clothes, nappies, or blankets. Many leave hospital empty-handed, filled with anxiety about how they will care for their newborns. Premature babies face even greater risks, spending weeks in hospital without essentials for warmth or hygiene.
What We Do:
The Maternity & Prem Project provides mothers with essential baby packs to bring comfort, care, and hope. Each pack is filled with practical items that make an immediate difference.
Maternity Packs Include:
Baby blanket
Baby outfit (vest, babygrow, socks, beanie)
Toiletries for mother and baby
Extras like a face cloth or small toy
Prem Packs Include:
Knitted or baby blanket
Knitted outfit, beanie, and booties (prem size)
Prem nappies
Toiletries for mother and baby
More Than Just a Pack:
Each parcel is delivered personally by the Little Lambs team, with time spent encouraging and listening to each mother. It’s a simple act of love that restores dignity and reassurance during one of life’s most vulnerable moments.
Impact:
Hundreds of maternity and prem packs are distributed every year, helping teenage and struggling mothers know they are not alone. For many, it’s the first time they feel supported, valued, and hopeful for their baby’s future.
Empowerment Project
The Challenge:
Unemployment in Dunoon remains a major crisis. Many women are single mothers with little to no income, struggling to feed their families and cover daily essentials. Without access to jobs or education, they remain trapped in dependency and despair.
What We Do:
Through the Empowerment Project, Little Lambs provides good-quality pre-loved clothing to local women for R5 or R10 per item. These women then resell the clothing within their communities, building a small but sustainable income source. It’s not charity — it’s empowerment through opportunity. This project isn’t about handouts. It’s about giving women a hand up so they can stand on their own and build a better future.
Our Process:
Clothing is carefully sorted and checked for cleanliness and quality.
Only wearable, good-condition items are distributed.
Women are encouraged to create mini-market stands and earn profit independently.
We kindly ask donors to avoid:
Dirty clothing, broken or torn items, worn underwear, or anything past useable condition.
Impact:
This initiative restores dignity, provides income, and helps women regain control over their lives. Many mothers who once struggled to provide now support their children proudly and independently.
Education Workshops
The Challenge:
Many girls in Dunoon grow up without access to basic health education, life skills, or supportive mentors. Poverty, peer pressure, and social issues expose them to risks such as teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence, and school dropout. Without awareness or guidance, their potential is lost before it has the chance to grow.
What We Do:
Each month, Little Lambs hosts workshops that equip young girls with knowledge and confidence through vital life education. These interactive sessions encourage self-worth, decision-making, and community responsibility.
Monthly Awareness Topics:
January – Back to School, Goal Setting & Stationery Drive
February – Teen Pregnancy Awareness
March – Menstrual Health & Hygiene
April – Self-Defence Workshops
May – Family Planning Overview
June – STD and AIDS Awareness
July – Mandela Month Project: Serving the Elderly
August – Women’s Month Celebration (900-girl workshop)
September – The Dangers of Drugs & Alcohol
October – Mental Health Awareness
November – Gender-Based Violence & Healthy Relationships
Impact:
Hundreds of girls gain confidence, knowledge, and empowerment each year. These workshops plant seeds of leadership and resilience that will change lives and families for generations.
Sewing Project
The Challenge:
Many women in the community possess creativity and drive but lack opportunities to develop skills or generate income. Access to tools, materials, and training is limited.
What We Do:
The Little Lambs Sewing Project was launched to train and empower local women in sewing and fabric work. The team now plays a key role in supporting other Little Lambs initiatives by:
Producing handmade pencil cases for all 300 KAGIS students
Sewing baby outfits, knitted booties, and blankets for maternity and prem packs
Creating reusable items like tote bags, uniform pieces, and fabric accessories for fundraising
Impact:
Women gain valuable sewing skills and confidence
Income generation opportunities created through production and sales
Direct support to KAGIS and Maternity Projects through in-house manufacturing
Strengthened community collaboration and creativity
