About
Little Lambs
Little Lambs was founded in 2008 by two friends, Andrea English and Annie Phocas, with a simple but powerful vision: to bring hope, dignity, and support to vulnerable mothers, babies, children, and teenage girls in Dunoon, Cape Town.
What began with a car full of donated baby essentials and two women handing out starter packs to mothers on the streets quickly grew into a movement of compassion. Shocked by the harsh conditions families were living in, Andrea and Annie knew they couldn’t turn back—they had to do more.
Over the years, Little Lambs has grown from strength to strength. Together with our volunteers, donors, and partners, we have:
The journey has been both devastating and miraculous. We have witnessed unbearable hardship, yet we have also seen hope restored, lives changed, and miracles unfold.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, when we thought Little Lambs might close its doors, something remarkable happened—we grew even stronger. As conditions in Dunoon became increasingly volatile and unsafe, we had to adapt. Out of this shift was born our flagship initiative, the Keep a Girl in School Project, which provides teenage girls with education, mentorship, and essential monthly parcels of food and toiletries. By thinking with our heads as well as our hearts, we found a sustainable way to continue our mission.
- Opened nine early childhood development (ECD) crèches.
- Supported HIV-positive and TB mothers and children through dedicated housing and education.
- Empowered teenage girls and young mothers through education, skills training, and mentorship.
- Established both a beading team and a sewing team, creating opportunities for women to earn an income.
- Provided food distribution, healthcare support, and clinic work to families in need.
- Launched Play-to-Learn workshops to encourage early childhood learning through play.
- Helped and supported a disabled children’s home, extending care and resources to some of the most vulnerable young lives.
Today, nearly two decades later, Little Lambs remains committed to restoring dignity, uplifting communities, and building brighter futures for young women, mothers, children, and families in need.
Our Mission in Action
Our Mission
Little Lambs exists to support and help vulnerable communities in Dunoon by educating and assisting teenage girls, young mothers, children, and babies. We provide essential food and toiletry packs, distribute baby and maternity supplies, facilitate antenatal classes, and work closely with local clinics and hospitals. Through our projects, we strive to meet basic needs and promote health, education, and well-being for those in need.
Our Vision for Dunoon
Our Vision
To create a healthier, safer, and better-educated Dunoon, where teenage girls are treated with dignity, teenage pregnancies are reduced, vulnerable people don’t go to bed hungry, and everyone involved in our projects is empowered to thrive. We strive to cover the basic needs and essentials of the people who touch our hearts.
